Guindy National Park is one of the prime visiting spots for those

Theosophical Society Gardens and Adyar Estuary
Adyar or Adayar is a large neighborhood south of Chennai (previously
Madras) in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is located on the
southern banks of the Adyar river. It is bounded by the Buckingham
Canal to the west, Tiruvanmiyur to the south, and Besant Nagar to
the east. The Gardens holds similar species to those at Guindy. The
estuary has includes Western Reef Erget, Brahminy Kite, White

The Gulf of Mannar is an arm of the Indian Ocean, lying between the
southern tip of India and the west coast of Sri Lanka at a width of
between 160 and 200 km. A chain of low islands and reefs known as
Rama's Bridge, also called Adam's Bridge, separates the Gulf of
Mannar from the Palk Strait, which lies to the north between India
and Sri Lanka. The gulf receives the Tambaraparani River from the
coast of India and the Aruvi Aru from the coast of Sri Lanka.Located
on the southeastern tip of the subcontinent, the Gulf of Mannar is
known to harbour over 3,600 species of flora and fauna, making it
one of the richest coastal regions in Asia. Its an important point
for migratory waders & birds coming from sri lanka. At Gulf of

Nagarhole (Rajiv Gandhi National Park)
Birding TourSituated at southern karnataka about 80 kms west from
Mysore which is famous for its Sandle wood products. Nagarhole
National Park had a decidious mixed forest at northern and western

approx 642 sq. kms which was Hunting reserve for the Maharaja's of

This Sanctuary at Tamil Nadu is one of the largest areas of
protected Wildlife area in India. This Sanctuary has dry deciduous
forest with pockets of teak plantation on a platue at the foot of

Munnar
is a town located in the southern state of Kerala in India. The name

Eravikulam National Park is a 97 kmē national park located along the
Western Ghats in the Idukki district of Kerala in India. The terrain
consists of high altitude grasslands interspersed with sholas.
Eravikulam National Park harbours the largest surviving population
of Nilgiri tahr (Hemitragus hylocrius).Nilgiri Tahr is endemic to
the southern Western Ghats.Its relatives are the Himalayan
tahr(Hemitragus jemlahicus) and Arabian Tahr(hemitragus jayakiri).

Located at the Idukki district on the eastern side of Kerela "the
Periyar Sanctuary" is best known reserve in Kerela and is one of the
most popular sanctuary with its picturesque setting surrounding a
lake in the Cardamom hills. The sanctuary covers an area of 777sq.
km. Due to its mostly Moist Evergreen forest and Semi Evergreen
Forest provides an excellent spot for viewing mammals and aves.
Periyar is one of the must visit destination with altitude ranging
from 150 mts to highest of 2020 mts. There are patches of varied
forest including moist evergreen & semi evergreen forest , Some ot
he speciality birds of the area are Broad tailed grassbird, Wynnad
laughingthrush , Malabar trogon , Nilgiri flycatcher & white bellied

the main road to Bangloare. The Famous heronry at Rangathittu on

In Pulicat Lake

Pulicat Lake is the second largest brackish-water lake on the
Coromandel Coast of southeastern India. It lies at the border of
Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states, 60 km north of Chennai. The
barrier island of Sriharikota separates the lake from the Bay of
Bengal. It is the second-largest brackish water ecosystem on India's
east coast, after Orissa's Chilka Lake. The lake is shallow, and
varies in area with the tides and seasonal rainfall, from 460 sq. km
in high water to 250 sq. km in low water.
The shallow lake is known for its diversity of aquatic birds, and is
an important stopover on migration routes. Approximately 15,000
flamingos visit the lake each year, along with pelicans,
kingfishers, herons, painted storks, spoonbills and ducks. The
beaches of Sriharikota are an important nesting spot for sea
turtles. Birds found at this region are Spot bellied Pelican, Indian
and Little Cormorants, Herons, Egrets, Painted Stroks, Asian
Openbill, Black Headed Ibis, Spoonbill, Bar headed Goose, Greater

Rollapadu Bird sanctuary is renowned bird sanctuary of Andhra
Pradesh, especially because of the wide variety of flora and birds
found. This sanctuary is located at a distance of about 60 Kms from
the Kurnool area near Nandikotkuru in Andhra Pradesh covering an
area of about 614 sq kms with dry thorn type of forest, interspread
with dry cereal crops, cotton, groundnut and castor. Grasslands and
open wastes with small bushes with gritty soil are favoured spots.
The Rollapadu Bird Sanctuary is the home to a number of wild
animals, birds and reptiles. Birdwatcher are suggested to visit this
sanctuary from Oct- Feb to have sight of Indian Bustards, Lesser

Shamirpet Lake is about 30 kilometers north of Hyderabad, or 24 km
north of Secunderabad, on the main road to Banglalore. Therefore it
is attractive as a destination close to one of India's most bustling

Anaimalai is also called Elephant Mountains range in the Western
Ghats of the Tamil Nadu state at Southern India. The Anaimalai Hill
are a junction of the Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats and have a
general northwest-southeast trend. Anai Peak (8,842 feet [2,695 m])
lies at the extreme southwestern end of the range and is the highest
peak in southern India. The total area of this National Park is
approx 1250 sq. kms and its official title is Indira gandhi Wildlife
Sanctuary.
The toursit zone is at Top Slip which is situated at the elevation
of 740 m on the edges of Karian Shola, and outstandingpatch of
rainforest of approx 9sq kms which is the habitat for good number of
South Indian Endemic birds.

The station is located in the tropical hills in southern India. This

An excellent shola extend east of Naduvattam vilage on the road
between Ooty abd Theppakadu. We recommend Birders to spend one full
day at this place to have a sight of Grey Junglefowl, Woodcock,
Indian Scimitar Babbler, Black and orange and Nilgiri fly catchers,
Crimson backed Sunbirds, Nilgiri Laughing Thrush, Large billed leaf,
Greenish and western crowned Warblers, Indian Blue Robin, SCaly
Thrush, Eurasian Black bird, Black lored tit, forest wagtail,
pompadour green pegion, Mountain imperial pigeons, Nilgiri wood
pigeon, white bellied blue flycatcher, Malabar Whistling Thrush,
Crimson backed sunbirds and little spiderhunter etc....
Sighur Ghat
Sighur Ghat is also known as Kalhatti Ghat or simply Steep Ghat and
is named after Sighur River at the bottom. There is a short
cut-branch off the Gudalur ghat at Theppakadu in Mudumalai. This is
the steep slop from Ooty down to the eastern end of Mudumalai.
Birders can have a sight of Painted Bushquail, Kalhatty Checkpost,
Common Buzzard, Bonelli's & Black Eagles, Indian Swiftlet, Pacific

Situated at a distance of 86 kms. from Chennai, and is spread over
72 acres of marshy land with trees ideal for nesting are home to
many species of water birds.Vedanthangal is the oldest bird
sanctuary in the country. This has been in existence presumably for
more than 200 years. The villagers had documented their right, to
protect the winged visitors to this sanctuary.
Bird watcher can visit this place place from late in October and the
birds are through with breeding and disperse to their feeding
grounds about February. From November to February, Many migratory
birds like garganey teals, shovellers, pintails, stilts, sandpipers
etc. Visit the sanctuary in winter. A variety of resident birds like
coots, moorhen and terns can be seen.
The breeding species of Aves at Vedabthangal Sanctuary are Great,
Indian and Little Cormorants, Oriental Darter, Grey Heron, Indian
Pon Heron, Great white, intermediate and Little Egrets, Black
crowned Night Herons, Asian Openbill, Black Headed Ibis, Eurasian
Spoonbill, Spot billed Pelicans, Glossy Ibis, Yellow wattled
Lapwing, Eurasian Thick Knee, Indian Courser, Chestnut Winged, Pied,
Grey Bellied and Common Hawk Cuckoos, Blue Indian Bushlark, Loten's
Sunbird, Black headed Cuckooshrike, White browed Bulbul, Paddyfield,
Richard's and Blytth's Pipits, White browed Wagtail, Streaked Weaver
